What advantage do you get from buying a new car?
I know you asked for “advantage” but I believe there are a lot more than just one. Here are 10 advantages of buying new vs used:
1- You know the history of the vehicle. Even buying a 1 year old vehicle you don’t know how the vehicle was being used. Was it highway miles vs city miles? Did they get their routine maintenance done? Was it in any accidents? Does it have any safety recalls?
2- Latest safety features. All vehicles that are 2018 and newer now have backup camera’s. Many new vehicles come standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, etc.
3- No maintenance costs until your first oil change and still much lower maintenance than buying a used vehicle. If you buy a vehicle at 30k miles and still on first set of tires, plan on spending at least $400 for new tires within the next 5–10k miles.
4- Buying exactly what you want in a vehicle. If you buy a used vehicle you’ll get what someone else wanted on the vehicle. Yes, it might be pretty close to what you want, but did you really want a white color instead of black?
5- Easier to get financing from lenders or lower interest rates from manufacturers. Lenders are more aptly to lend on a vehicle that is new vs used. They get to use the vehicle as collateral if you default. Also, if you’re financing through the dealership, they can give you a lower cost on the vehicle because the “spread” they’ll make on the financing.
6- Best fuel economy. Due to the cafe standards set by the federal government, manufacturers have been having to increase the fuel economy of their vehicles or face harsh penalties. Comparing a 4 year old vehicle to a new vehicle today, you’ll see about a 20% increase in mpg.
7- Technology. New vehicles are now equipped with apple carplay/android auto, bluetooth, usb connections, keyless start/entry, and many cool features that get better every year. A lot of these features were only on higher trim levels but are now coming down on base trim levels on vehicles.
8- Full manufacturer Warranty. Sometimes, buying a used vehicle the manufacturer warranty won’t transfer over to a new owner. You won’t have to worry about any issues on the vehicle for at least the first 3 years or 36k miles for most vehicles.
9- Peace of mind. You won’t have to worry about your new car making it on your long road trip or breaking down in the middle of the intersection. Or if you’re driving around your kiddos and you’re involved in an accident, they will be safer in a new car than an older car. Having that peace of mind for parents goes a long ways.
10- Coolness factor- Yes, to some people driving the latest car out there lifts their ego and makes them feel more secure. So that has to be included.
In the end, there are a lot of great reasons to buy new vs used.
